Ancona is...
The city of Ancona is the capital of the region Marche, a region which mountains and hills faces the Adriatic sea, and it is significantly called as “Italy in one region”. Ancona is anxious to host the 2009 European Veteran’s Athletic Indoor Championships. Ancona has 100.000 inhabitants and owes everything to: its position, origins, history and mercantile fate. On the ridge of Conero mountain the sun rises and sets over the sea. Ancona is a port, a busy and cultural town, but thanks to the talent of its administrators, it is also a city characterised by modern and multifunctional sport facilities. For these reasons Ancona has been acknowledged as one of the Italian capitals of sport for more than a decade. This is why the Italian Federation of Athletics (F.I.D.A.L.) chose to build the new Indoor Stadium up here, and it is also the only existing permanent sport facility for Indoor events. Whitin few minutes distance from Ancona you can visit the company store of many prestigious “Made in Italy” brands. In very favourable terms the athletes might buy Prada, Genny, Hugo Boss, Tod’s, Cesare Paciotti and Piero Guidi’s goods. And it takes a minute to get to the Conero Riviera. This is a part of a Regional Natural Park extending for 6000 acres. It is one of the most extraordinary tourist spots in Marche. It includes Ancona with Portonovo bay, Sirolo, Camerano and Numana. This is a unique resort where the green Mediterranean bush meets the blue of the sea. The Frassasi gorge, 30 km from Ancona, is the most important European speleological area where you can visit the marvellous Frasassi caves: the caves are 13 kilometres long and with a temperature of 14°C. |
