Itineraries on foot through the historical centre, for admiring ancient churches, historical palaces, squares and characteristic alleys: the “Cattedrale di San Ciriaco” (Saint Cyriac’s Cathedral, Thirteenth Cent.), from which you can admire the magnificent view of the town and its harbour, the Mole Vanvitelliana (Vanvitelli’s Lazaret), Piazza del Papa (Pope’s Square), the Diocesan Museum with its wonderful, well preserved tapestry, the Parco del Cardeto (Cardeto Park), rich in historical traces.
♦ Thursday 26 March :
Starting point: Piazza della Repubblica (Republic Square) near the Teatro delle Muse (Theatre of the Muses) Schedule: 10.30 hrs in the morning, 15.30 hrs in the afternoon
Itinerary : visit to the impressive Mole Vanvitelliana (Vanvitelli’s Lazaret), on the way back you will admire the magnificent portal of the Loggia dei Mercanti (Merchants’ Loggia) and the wonderful Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Piazza (Saint Mary of the Square); this is the starting point to visit the harbour with the imposing Honorary Arch of Trajan and the Pope Clemens’ Arch. Going up the Guasco hill you can admire the historical Palazzo degli Anziani (Palace of the Elders), the beautiful façade of the Chiesa del Gesù (Jesus’Church), Piazza San Francesco (Saint Francis’Square) with its ancient church, and Palazzo Bosdari (Bosdari Palace), seat of the Municipal Picture-Gallery.

Starting point : Piazza Cavour (Cavour Square, near the statue)
Schedule : 10.30 hrs in the morning, 15.30 hrs in the afternoon
Itinerary : visit to to the Parco del Cardeto (Cardeto Park, 1 km roughly from the town centre), a very beautiful urban park, rich in history; inside it you can admire: the old Lighthouse, the Bastione di San Paolo al Cassero ( Saint Paul’s Ramparts), the Jewish Cemetery.

Itinerary : the wonderful Romanesque church of Santa Maria della Piazza (Saint Mary of the Square), Piazza del Plebiscito (Plebiscite Square) and then, going up the Guasco hill, rich in historical buildings and churches, you can admire the marvellous Cattedrale di San Ciriaco (Saint Cyriac Cathedral, thirteenth cent.), the Roman amphitheatre, and in the afternoon you can visit (free admission) the Diocesan Museum, rich in very ancient finds and well preserved Rubens’ tapestry.
